ABOUT Shawn LaRue
Shawn grew up in a rural area known as Banner Springs, Tennessee.
On the small farm he grew up helping his family raise cattle and a variety of other animals. During high school, he played basketball and worked as a part-time bag boy at a local grocery store.
After high school he earned an academic scholarship to the University of Tennessee where he studied Plant and Soil Science. While there he participated in a variety of extracurricular activities that include being a member of the University Club Crew Rowing team. He graduated with a B.S. in Plant and Soil Science and a minor in business.
His first job after college was with Gibbs Landscape Company based in Smyrna, GA. He started out on a maintenance crew and over the course of 4 years worked his way up to Account Manager and then Branch Manager for the newly established Alpharetta Branch.
During his time at Gibbs he attained an MBA with a concentration in project management.
Shawn then joined The Morrell Group and took over the branch operations in Destin, FL. The Morrell Group was acquired by ValleyCrest in 2004 and he stayed on as branch manager until he started Horticulture Services Group, Inc. in 2008.
Shawn developed HSG into a high-end commercial landscape maintenance provider until 2022 when he teamed up with Russell Landscape to lead their Florida operations.
He has experienced several acquisitions from both the buyer and seller’s perspective over the course of a 27-year professional career.
He still considers himself a student of the “business craft” and his passion is helping business owners live their life and have success as they define it.
